Good Product - Could Be Better

I purchased the Ionic Pro a few months ago to help alleviate litter box odor. It was smaller than expected and is really not a "convenient" product. It does not have an electrical cord. It plugs directly into the electrical outlet. So it is really difficult to place it exactly where you want it to be and thus its effectiveness could be hampered.



It does a good job on most odors most of the time--minimal to slight odors. However when there is a particularly stong odor the product is less effective. If you want to combat strong odors I would suggest purchasing one of the more powerful/bigger Ionic products.More detail ...

The Technology Has Improved

This is my second try at using an ionic air cleansing system. The Ionic Pro is modestly priced and the technology has come a long way since the first high cost electronic air cleaners. When compared to more traditional electric motor and multi filter HEPA units the Ionic Pro uses less electriciy and runs quietly.



Ionic blade technology has long been used by NASA and in commercial aircraft. It began finding its way into homes initally as add-on units to newly installed furnaces. The current stand-alone towers evolved as separate appliances.



Like the other "Ionic" air cleaning systems this unit still emits ozone. Though billed in the owner's guide as a "clean scent" the ozone aroma can be overpowering to some people. If you have ever been in a room where power tools have been in use an electric train set has been running or a new computer monitor was turned on for the first time you have encountered ozone. In all fairness the Ionic Pro has come a long way from its predecessors in terms of filtering basically breaking up 03 ozone into 02 oxygen the electric arc scent. When I bought my first ionic air cleansers several years ago I ended up returning them because of the annoying ozone scent -- even though I was the only person in my household who seemed to notice the ozone smell. There are ionic air cleaners that have just about licked this problem with the addition of three filters. Unfortunately these brands are commensurately more expensive. The Ionic Pro is equipped with a solitary filter. Thus far during my use of the product the scent is bearable. However for those who are intolerant of even a hint of ozone I recommend you opt for a more expensive multi-filter brand.



As other reviewers have noted the Ionic Pro is hardly maintenance free. This is the price you pay for not having to buy expensive HEPA replacement filters and using less electricity. The collection blades must be cleaned at least every week. The downside to this is that the manufacturer recommends that the blades be allowed to dry 24 hours before reinstalling them in the unit. The booklet recommends that you order an additional set of blades. Although I am not yet at the point of ordering a second set of blades I did notice that they are now hard to find for this particular unit.



The other challenge with this unit is that it is not designed to handle larger airborne debris such as pet hair. Unlike a true HEPA filter that simply screens out the hair any hair entering the Ionic Pro will cause it snap and crackle until you vacuum it out. In reading other reviews on the Ionic Pro I want to point out that most of the debris causing the crackling will not be found on the collection blades. There is a thin wire filament toward the rear of the unit. It has its own cleaning swipe that can be accessed at the top of the tower but that will usually not stop the crackle. I use a long thin bristle brush the type you use to clean the coils under a refrigerator and brush off the outside and inside of the rear air inlets behind the wire. This does the trick.



Prior to buying the Ionic Pro I had two Honeywell circular HEPA air cleaners. With a child in the family with allergies it is a fact of life that you change your furnace filters regularly and own one or more air cleaning systems. Mind you I have no immediate plans to dispose of the hard working Honeywell units. Even my son's allergist recommended that we stick to using true HEPA air cleaning systems versus ionizing tower units. Still I noticed an ever increasing number of offices including medical office waiting rooms using ionic air cleaners. More challenging was the fact that my HEPA unit uses expensive filters that can no longer be found on store shelves. Although you can buy the charcoal pre-filter (designed to fit any number of air cleaning systems) in stores like WalMart the large cylandrical filters are only available through mail order -- and they are not cheap. As an added note the original filters for my unit are no longer available. I recently ordered two 2-pack "permanent" replacement filters complete with spacers and two additional charcoal pre-filters. The replacement cost admittedly to change the filters in two Honeywell units came to $179.00.



Another selling point for the Ionic Pro is that it is much quieter than the Honeywell. My teenagers keep shutting off the old reliable HEPA units while watching television because it is too noisy. As there is no benefit to an air cleaner unless it is running I decided to add the Ionic Pro as a second line of allergin defense.



There are a lot of varied opinions on the usefulness of Ionic Pro. The product works well but you should not view it as a solitary cure filtering the air in your home.More detail ...

Disappointing

I guess my first review got rejected for the mention of a certain website regarding the word ripoff. This was a fairly important point so I'll try to make note of why. Unfortunately my first review was a little better but here goes:



First I'll give a report of my experiences with product failure and customer service then I'll give some general impressions after using the unit for a little less than a year.



Recently my red 'clean' light came on and no matter how clean the blades and wires were the clean light would come on after the unit was powered on. This happens after 11 months of mostly continuous use.



I emailed Ionic pro and got a phone number to call. I called this number and they gave me another phone number to call. It turns out that the first phone number was for Ionic Pro sales and the second was for retail sales (even though my email specified "I bought this thing from Amazon").



The second phone call resulted in the need to troubleshoot. Since I had done some research online and since I had a second unit I knew it was the unit itself - not the blades. If I didn't have the twin pack I wouldn't have had the ability to diagnose this problem - with or without the service representative.



It could have been the blades - apparently running the unit on high power shortens the blade life. The blades "dull" and must be replaced. Or something in the body of the unit breaks and the whole unit needs replaced.



My option was as follows. Fax a copy of my sales receipt to a bogus fax number. This is where my first review was stopped. Looking this phone/fax number online gave disturbing results leading me to believe it was a bogus fax (the ripoff report).



After (or in addition to faxing) I had to ship the unit to them with a copy of the receipt. When they got the unit they would call me for my credit card number so they could ship a new unit. The joke here is that I pay to ship the broken unit to them and I pay for shipping on the new unit. I have no idea how much it would cost for me to ship to them but the shipping of the new unit via USPS was $29.99. So I can only imagine that my under warranty replacement would cost me roughly $60. The replacement process seems rather inefficient costly and has some suspicious details.



I must say the representative on the second phone call was nice and helpful. But the service options are disappointing.



All in all this product is fairly noisy. When it buzzes you are supposed to lift a little lever to clean the wires this hardly makes a difference. It was quiet for a few days then I was never able to attain silence again - no matter how clean everything looked.



There is also an annoying bright blue LED that leaves a nice bright spot on the ceiling. Sure this could be covered up with tape.



After a few weeks of what I thought was success with this product I almost bought a set for my parents. I'm certainly glad I didn't. Given the costs of under warranty replacement the sale price is no real bargain. I have yet to decide whether I'll return the unit and pay IP another $60 but I doubt it.More detail ...

Not a HEPA filter

The description says HEPA filter but the box said HEPA-type filter. I am not sure what this will mean for the life of the filter as I have vaccumed it several times and it still looks dirty. However there seems to be less dust in the room and my son says he has less allergy issues at night so - so far so good.

FANTASTIC EQUIPMENT

After 1 month of use this IQAir unit earns my highest recommendation. I researched air purifiers for about a week before buying two IQAir units one with the odor filter (Pro-Plus) and one without (Pro) to help with allergies and asthma symptoms that my family suffers from. Both of them work absolutely perfectly with significant symptom relief within the first week of use. The packaging was very secure with each unit contained in double boxes similar to what you find with high-end stereo equipment including thick styrofoam inserts for cushioning. The unpacked units were sparkling new and clean with an inspection page that detailed the performance actual performance for my unit at each of the five individual speeds. The manual was nicely organized and easy to comprehend.



These are sturdy units that are somewhat heavy but come with a convenient handle recessed on the top as well caster wheels (which are optional to install) to roll the unit if you need to move it periodically. The manual recommends clearance of at least 12 inches on all sides for optimal performance so keep this in mind for placement in your room. It is noisy at the highest setting but works very effectively at quieter settings 2 or 3 in my 13' x 16' room. I also use an IQAir unit in a 20 x 20 room and it cleans the air very well at setting 3. My son noticed so much improvement in his allergies and breathing after just two days of use that when I moved the unit to another room for a night he begged me to return it to his bedroom. We went on vacation for a few days and he said that he could not wait to get back home because he missed the IQAir purifier.



If you are comparing the units with and without the odor filter even the one without the odor filter leaves the air smelling fresh and clean. In fact for the first week the one with the odor filter had a bit of a peculiar smell to it which might have been coming from the odor filter itself. Unless you have a really significant odor problem you can save the extra $100 that you pay for the "Pro-Plus" over the "Pro" model. The units look identical from the outside and you can order a retrofit assembly from the IQAir if you later want to convert your "Pro" to "Pro Plus." Each unit has a remote that is slightly larger than a credit card which is very convenient if I want to change the setting after I get into bed.



In summary these IQAirs are well worth the price which isn't as much as it seems after you factor in the yearly filter replacement cost which is lower than most other brands. I wish that I had discovered IQAir years ago before wasting my money on other air purifiers. I am so impressed that I am about to order a third IQAir to use in my office. I have previously owned the following air purifiers none of which came anywhere close to my IQAir units: Oreck XL Air8D Oreck XL 4000 Holmes (various sizes) Honeywell (the largest big round one) Sharper Image (Ionic Breeze). I hated cleaning the Oreck units which were overpriced and their replacement filters were also very expensive on a yearly basis. The Orecks also left a lot of dust all around them. The motor burned out on my large Oreck unit just after the two year warranty expired. The Honeywell filter was also very expensive and the unit was extremely noisy. The Holmes units were ok for very small rooms but had to be on the noisiest high setting to notice any air cleaning had flimsy construction and required frequent filter changes. The little purifier that could

Upon finding myself repeatedly getting sick after air travel I bought the AirTamer purifier as originally marketed by Brookstone. Four years and over a hundred flights later (many long international flights) and I have never come down with as much as a cold. Of course you need to make sure to wash or sanitize your hands before eating (any means of public transportation is never thoroughly cleaned.

I just got back from the Dominican Republic where I gave my beloved filter to a allergy based asthmatic because she was ending up in the hospital a few times a month. I was told that she was doing much better after one day wearing this unit. Well I immediately ordered a new one for myself and was pleasantly surprised to see it arrive in this great little aluminum carrying case. The unit is so tiny and unobtrusive yet highly effective. You can actually feel the air movement if you hold it up to your cheek. The battery seems to last forever. I have given out quite a few to friends.

One last point. If you touch the tip while it is operating it will shut down and reactivate after a bit.More detail ...

Better Breathing Thu Technology!

This is the second of this particular Air Purifier that my wife and I have purchased. The first one that we got we use up in our bedroom.this one we use in the dining room mainly because our kitchen is ok for preparing foods but not of the "eat in " size. So a lot of our eating and "entertaining" is done in the "Dining" room. You know the old saying"of all the rooms in my home everyone like my kitchen best". So everyone appreciates the fresher circulated air that they breathe there. This unit recycles the air 6x every hr. Up in our bedroom we enjoy a more restful snore free nights sleep than we had BEFORE we acquired these units. They are definitely worth the money. And really compared to a lot of other more expensive unitsthey do a much better job! AND Let me Repeat that AND YOU Don't HAVE TO REPLACE any expensive filthers. Just clean what you have once in a while! NO PROBLEMS!If you are in the market for something like this don't be sucked into "sizzle" that manufacturers of more expensive unit try to sell you on. Love the air cleaner hate the cost of the filters!

I bought the 4-pack of filters because I keep the air cleaner in my bedroom and it does a Great job and has almost eliminated my allergies! I also can't understand why the filters cost so much....they are small and only last a month or two before you need to replace them. I have found them at Target and at Ace Hardware.....but they are always $20 each. So basically we are getting $10 off on the 4 pack...plus no tax or postage if you use the 1-click feature.

As for as buying gas....you could only buy about 5 gallons of gas and with all the gas hogs on the road polluting the air....you really need the air cleaners so at least at night you can breath clean air....More detail ...

Bio Fresh is the Best

I have problems with airborne allergens and with asthma. I have spent nearly two thousand dollars on different air cleaners over the past ten years. They all proved to be ineffective noisy ugly and/or overpriced. The Bio Fresh works for me. None of the others did. I enjoy the several different modes of cleaning available. IT WORKS (Owner of an Airfree P1000 and a RabbitAir BioGS)

I make about 10 to 20 purchases on Amazon every month - both for personal and business uses - but I almost never review the products I buy. However I thought I should write one for the Airfree P1000 because it really is a great product that deserves a little of my time and effort.



We own an Airfree P1000 and a RabbitAir BioGS. We put the Airfree P1000 in our bedroom because it's silent and serves as a nightlight for me; I am night blind. The light is adjustable so I can keep it dim and not disturb my husband. We don't always get to open our bedroom window because it is right by our neighbor's patio where she keeps one of her dogs and she is not always home to clean up after the dog right after it goes.



Also we have two cats and a dog so it's impossible to have the bedroom smelling fresh. However the P1000 was able to completely freshen-up the bedroom in just a couple of hours. It even removed the scent coming from the plug-in air freshener. And being inexpensive and virtually maintenance free are definitely additional pluses. Very nice small unit

This little purifier looks good has three fan speeds and a "ion" mode that can be turned off. The HEPA filter gets changed every 6 months and costs $20. To get the "lifetime warranty" you need to sign up for a filter delivery program. This may not be too bad if you use the unit all the time but it is not too clear how to stop the program once initiated. My first unit was noisy so I requested a replacement. The replacement arrived promptly and works well. On low fan setting it is very quiet. Higher settings circulate a LOT of air and should be good if you have a serious problem.More detail ...

(almost) silent wonder

just set up our first ANDREA with an Aloe Vera plant inside and am loving it... the fresh greenhouse-like smell that comes out (especially when you first turn it on) is great and it looks perfect in the corner of our front room. there's an adjustable fan and you can turn on the light for a super sci-fi effect at night - which makes it look like something out of "Sunshine". right now we're moving it around the house every few days - might buy a dedicated one just for the bedroom. only complaint is that it's not *quite* quiet enough to leave on next to your bed while you sleep but then i'm a pretty light sleeper!More detail ...

This one actually works

After having tried other air purifier models I have finally found something that helps with our allergies. It's amazing to see how dirty the filter is when it is time to change the filters - kind of like when you empty a vacuum cleaner bag. It's hard to believe there is so much stuff in the air. I have found it much easier to replace the filter every 6 months than having to clean a filter weekly. The unit is a bit loud on the highest fan speed setting and found it works best to run it on speed 3 or 4 before I go to sleep and then lower it to speed 1 or 2. On the lower fan speed settings it sounds more like white noise and after a couple days of running the unit I forgot it was on.More detail ...

Works on mold and mildew allergy very well so far

This device works on mold in the air. I could tell the pretty impressive effect within about twenty four hours. This version is more powerful than another one the P100 that I have tried and that one also worked very well. This one is the most powerful they have right now and the column of warm air is slightly more intense than on the lower powered one. This one produces enough heated convection to notice if you put your hand about four inches above it. It still isn't what I would call hot though or even very warm. The blue light is still a good warning not to drape something over it which of course you're not supposed to do! The main thing is how long it will last as it is meant to run continuously. So far after a month there are no problems. This took care of the basement mold allergy problem in a 12 by 20 foot room. There was nothing to assemble. It comes out of the box and you plug it in where nothing can block the top vent and that's it. One of the most useful things I've bought in a while.More detail ...

Good product. So-so service.

This is a good air filter. I have pretty bad allergies and when we first moved into this house it had brand new carpet and I would be miserable 5 minutes after walking in the door. I moved my T300 in from my previous apartment and about a day later came back and had no allergy symptoms whatsoever.



PROS: -Cleans extremely well.

-Filters last longer than 6 months.

-Quiet on lower settings



CONS: -Have noticed a problem with the back cover. It takes some work to get the unit to recognize that the back cover is installed. Customer service told me I could adjust the sensor for it but haven't tried yet.

-Lamps are ridiculously expensive. Don't last. Don't buy them for sixty bucks! Get the Phillips PL5/UV at bulbman(dot)com for thirteen bucks! Its better and is the exact bulb specs for the T300...

Lots of power!!!! WOW!!!

i bought this air purifier after i was genuinely disappointed by another one - the Surround Air Xj3000 C (check my review on that one if you wish ) and honestly i didn't expect a lot. but was i wrong...:)))) this unit is absolutely amazing - lots and lots of power strong but yet quiet fan (you barely notice it on the first 2 settings) very nice design and as i was able to understand first hand- excellent customer service on the part of the Winix people - i had a few questions and they were all answered very promptly .



When i said - "lots and lots of power " just consider this - my living room is about 400 sq.feet. there were three smokers in it puffing for a few hours. the air purifier is either on turbo mode or the third setting. all the windows and doors are closed. two friends of mine came in and they COULD NOT tell that anybody did smoke in the room!!! no smell NADA !!!and that is about cigarette smoke - the one that stays for days and really really stinks.



another example - after a few hours of use i opened the cover and checked the carbon filter - guess what - it was clogged with my cats hair ( the little guy shreds a lot ) and i just vacuumed the house that same day! now i know and i check that pre-filter every 2 or 3 days and vacuum it just to be sure i get all the suction i'm supposed to.



to put it briefly - cigarette smell - gone cat smell- gone litter box smell -gone dog smell ( yes we have a dog too :)) - gone. when my wife cooks - we put the Winix it the kitchen - cooking smell -you guessed it - gone the second it hits the unit.



In conclusion - I'm very satisfied with the Winix 5300 and hope it lasts a while . it's a great air purifier for a very fair price . Amazon did a great job with the shipping - it came in 3 days even with the Super Saver shipping. i'm giving it only 5 stars just because they don't let me rate it six:)))))

I know there have been a lot of good things written about this product but I did not have the same experience. I foster cats/kittens and have up to 20 animals in my home/garage at one time. I keep everything spotless but because of new animals etc. there are a few that have been marking for a long time. I purchased at least 8 gallons of this product and used it exactly as prescribed. I have wood floors and you can only saturate so much without ruining them (I probably did in a few areas!). It never stopped them from returning to that area. I even used this product in conjunction with Feliway as suggested. Nothing worked. When I contacted the company regarding my dilemma they said they could not help me because I purchased the product from a company other than themselves. I would always search for the best price considering I was purchasing so much! There was a $20.00 difference per gallon in some instances. I can say that the product smells nice! Other than that it did not work for me and there was no help from the company once I had a problem with it. So much for their money-back guarantee!! I think they need to add a disclaimer where people can see it that the product must be purchased from the manufacturer to be guaranteed. A good filter for a great air cleaner

The IQAir is great and the machine tells you when to change the filters so it keeps working and working. And the V-5 helps take chemical smells from varnish out of the house very quickly.More detail ...
